Elvis Presley - Elvis On Television 1956-1960

Muitos autores afirmam que Elvis se tornou popular por causa da TV. Essa afirmação é verdadeira, mas também incompleta. O fato é que Elvis também ajudou a popularizar a TV, isso em uma época em que poucas pessoas possuíam um aparelho de televisão em casa. Mesmo nos Estados Unidos a TV ainda era uma novidade tecnológica quando Elvis pintou pela primeira vez em sua tela, lá nos distantes anos 1950. Pois bem, aqui temos um box duplo trazendo todas as apresentações de Elvis na TV entre os anos de 1956 a 1960, que inclusive foi o período em que o cantor mais realizou apresentações ao vivo, seja no programa de Ed Sullivan (que registrou um recorde histórico de audiência) seja nos programas de Steve Allen e Milton Berle.

Depois que Elvis voltou do exército americano, onde estava servindo na Alemanha, o Coronel Parker decidiu que ele iria ficar fora da TV por muitos anos. Isso porque Parker acreditava que o futuro (e os lucros) estavam em outra tela, a do cinema. Assim não fazia muito sentido Elvis fazer concorrência para si mesmo. Se alguém quisesse ver Elvis cantando em um palco deveria antes comprar um ingresso de bilheteria, no cinema é claro! Assim Elvis ficou anos fora da TV, só voltando no programa especial no canal NBC. Antes disso porém houve o "Welcome Home Elvis!", um programa apresentado por Frank Sinatra que celebrava seu retorno aos Estados Unidos. Não foi musicalmente tão relevante, mas ao menos serviu para juntar os dois maiores cantores de todos os tempos em um breve dueto. Enfim, temos aqui uma boa dica desse lado da carreira de Elvis Presley que nem sempre é muito valorizado. Claro, as masters de gravação não são perfeitas - já que foram copiadas das transmissões de TV - mas diante da importância histórica do material isso fica realmente em segundo plano.
